Sustainable IoT architecture in smart city projects

A scalable smart city approach that treats battery life, coverage, device management and open integrations as one problem.

Whether a smart city pilot turns into a lasting service depends not only on sensor choice but on the whole device lifecycle. The architecture has to be built around maintenance and integration realities from day one.

The gap between pilot and scale

A pilot where ten devices can be managed by hand does not work the same way across thousands. Identity, remote configuration, firmware, alarms and field inventory must be designed before you grow.

Build an open data flow

An IoT platform should not become a data island. APIs and event-based integrations let maintenance, the call centre, the geographic information system and reporting tools share the same operational picture.

Measure success by operations

Metrics more valuable than device count: response time, field visits avoided, data continuity, and the quality of service delivered to citizens.
